How I Made Our Landscape Lighting Smarter

We wanted our landscape lighting to do more than just make the yard look good at night. I wanted it automated, but also connected to our security lighting so it could respond when there was activity outside.

The VOLT landscape lights are connected to a Ring Smart Lighting Transformer, which gives us control through the Ring system instead of relying on a basic landscape-light timer.

We have the lights scheduled to come on automatically at dusk and turn off later at night. After they shut off, motion detected by our Ring driveway or porch devices can trigger the landscape lights to come back on.

What I like most about this setup is that the landscape lighting still looks like normal outdoor lighting, but now it works with the Ring system. We get the look we wanted along with the convenience of automation and motion-triggered lighting.

The VOLT lights give us the look we wanted around the lawn and landscaping. Connecting them through the Ring transformer is what made the setup much more useful — especially being able to tie the landscape lights into the motion detection we already had.
